Sonder House was founded by two families, searching for more, for their own adult children with special needs as they turned 21. When they were not able to find it, the knew it was up to them to create it. The goal was to develop a community that gave its members a sense of accomplishment, pride, and purpose while participating in farm and family life style. Community members are respected and nurtured as important members, just like every one else.
The opening of Sonder House in July of 2020 was just the beginning. As a promising future for all adults with special needs was created, the hopes and dreams to grow our community and program are within our reach. Every child, as they turn 21 and age out of the special needs system, deserves to live a meaningful and fulfilled life just like this. And every parent of a child with special needs, deserves to have their hearts at peace, knowing their children will have a place to call home forever. Long after they are gone.
